We launched procurement for the new Inquests Category of Law under the 2024 Standard Civil Contract on 4 August 2026.
The first procurement round closed on 4 September 2026, with 55 bids received. We have now completed the assessment of these bids, with 53 successfully passing assessment and moving into verification.
As of 6 November 2026, four applicants have completed verification and been awarded contracts, with further contracts being awarded as applicants complete the verification process.
Assessment of the second and third tranches, covering applications received since 4 September, is also underway.
The procurement now follows the Always On approach used across the 2024 Standard Civil Contract, with applications downloaded and assessed in monthly tranches. This means organisations continue to have the opportunity to apply, rather than being restricted to a single application window.
Alongside this, we have launched the approval process for inquests training courses. Approved courses will provide a route for individuals to meet the legal competence standard set out in the Inquests Application Guide.
Details of the process and approved training courses, along with updates, will be published on the Approved training course for inquests page.
